"Saturday Girl is a series of portraits of young women in Leeds; specifically as seen through their hairstyles.
It is an exploration of what hair means culturally and personally to young women and how they experience and use the power inherent in becoming visible as women.
All of the photographs are taken on Saturday afternoons in a pop up studio in the Leeds, and on Saturdays this city brims with young women, out with girlfriends, shopping and generally hanging around looking and being looked at.
These girls are experimenting with fantastically creative ways of expressing themselves. We have always dyed and cut, sprayed and shaved; as a way of stating individuality and belonging to a tribe. All this big hair also reflects past trends in hair fashion, passed down to them intuitively through culture.
Saturday Girl is an exhibition and series of events including film screenings, talks and performances which explore ideas of beauty, power and visibility in relation to women, Leeds Gallery, March 2014.” -Artist Statement
"Trans rights are human rights." This moving video features 21 transgender people in Asia and across the Pacific sharing their experiences with their families, healthcare providers, government entities and more, and how those experiences were shaped by their trans status.
Together with UNAIDS, the Asia-Pacific Transgender Network released the video for special recognition today, Zero Discrimination Day, which is “a day to celebrate everyone’s right to live a full life with dignity no matter what they look like, where they come from or who they love.” (via Gay Star News)
Fatshion February Day 22
Skirt -thrifted // Sweater - Old Navy // Shoes - Cato // Rings - ASOS and $1 jewelry store // Necklace - Modcloth // Earrings - $1 jewelry store
I am always attracted to the long bohemian skirts that I find at thrift stores. I know they are kind of “old lady” style but I did my best to transform it into a boho luxe type of look. This outfit is so comfy. I think I’ll wear more maxi skirts this year!
PS can you tell that I am obsessed with rings lately? ;)
I don’t know why I haven’t seen this kickstarter all over tumblr yet.
Basically Catfe is a cat cafe, like the ones in Japan, that is trying to start up in Los Angeles, CA. They’ve already got the OK from LA department of health and LA animal services to start up their business but they need about $350,000 to get started up. At the moment they only have about $4,340.
But the really cool thing is, its not just a cat cafe! They plan to work with local shelters to house social cats, help them get adopted and help spread over all awareness. They also plan to host special events for local nonprofits as a way of giving back to the community, like children with disestablishes or orphanages.
You’d expect that once its started up it would be kind of expensive to get in with the cats right? Nope! They plan on pretty cheap rates!
I’m loving my curves today!
Love this girl. :)
